Our Editorial Purpose

TheGearPool creates practical product research and buying guidance for everyday life. Our editorial goal is to help readers understand their options, evaluate meaningful tradeoffs, and make decisions that fit their needs and budgets.

This policy explains how we plan, research, write, review, disclose, update, and correct our content.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are intended to be made independently of affiliate commissions, advertising relationships, public-relations requests, and product availability from any single retailer.

Participation in an affiliate program does not guarantee that a product will be selected, ranked, recommended, or described favorably. Brands cannot purchase a higher position in an editorial ranking. If sponsored content or paid placement is ever published, it will be clearly labeled so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial content.

How Products Are Selected

Products may be considered based on factors such as:

  • relevance to the reader’s likely needs;
  • category fit and intended use;
  • specifications and feature set;
  • safety information and known limitations;
  • usability, maintenance, and storage requirements;
  • durability indicators and warranty terms;
  • availability and value at the time of review;
  • patterns in verified or credible owner feedback;
  • differences from competing options; and
  • evidence gathered through hands-on evaluation, when performed.

The factors and their relative importance vary by category. For example, ease of cleaning may matter more for a blender, while filtration performance and replacement costs may matter more for an air purifier.

Research and Sources

Writers should rely on the most relevant and authoritative information available. Sources may include official product manuals, manufacturer specifications, safety notices, government or standards-body resources, expert guidance, reputable technical publications, and consistent patterns across credible owner reports.

Manufacturer claims are treated as claims, not automatically as independently verified facts. Important statements should be checked against primary sources where practical. Statistics, safety claims, health claims, and technical statements require especially careful sourcing.

We do not invent test results, expert quotes, customer experiences, product ownership, professional credentials, or personal anecdotes.

Hands-On Testing and Research-Based Guides

TheGearPool may publish both hands-on evaluations and research-based buying guides.

  • Hands-on evaluation: The article should identify the products tested, the practical conditions, the evaluation criteria, the approximate testing period when relevant, and any meaningful limitations.
  • Research-based guide: The article should not imply that products were personally tested. Recommendations should be based on documented features, reliable sources, comparison criteria, and clearly identified limitations.

Receiving a product sample does not guarantee coverage or a positive conclusion. When a reviewed product was provided free of charge, that relationship should be disclosed in the article.

Rankings and Recommendations

Labels such as “best,” “best value,” or “best for small spaces” are editorial judgments within the stated scope of the guide. They are not universal guarantees. Articles should explain the criteria supporting these labels and identify readers for whom another choice may be more appropriate.

Product prices, stock, colors, configurations, seller terms, coupons, and warranties may change. Readers should confirm current details with the retailer or manufacturer before purchasing.

Affiliate Links and Commercial Relationships

Some pages contain affiliate links. TheGearPool may receive a commission when a reader clicks a qualifying link and completes a purchase, without increasing the reader’s purchase price solely because of the commission.

Affiliate disclosures should appear clearly and conspicuously near relevant recommendations. Additional details are available in our Affiliate Disclosure.

Use of Artificial Intelligence

TheGearPool may use software tools, including artificial-intelligence-assisted tools, to support tasks such as outlining, organizing research, checking consistency, or improving readability. Such tools do not replace editorial responsibility.

Any content prepared with automated assistance must be reviewed by a responsible human editor before publication. Product claims, specifications, citations, prices, availability, and recommendations must be verified to an appropriate standard. We do not publish invented sources, fabricated testing, or fictional author credentials.

Corrections

Accuracy matters. When we confirm a material error, we aim to correct it promptly. Depending on the significance of the change, an article may include a correction or update note.

Readers can report a possible error by emailing editor@thegearpool.com with the page URL, the statement in question, and supporting information.

Updates

Product guides may be reviewed and updated when products are discontinued, specifications change, stronger evidence becomes available, safety information changes, or better options become relevant. An updated date does not necessarily mean every product was retested; it should reflect a meaningful editorial review.

Conflicts of Interest

Contributors should disclose financial, professional, or personal relationships that could reasonably affect their coverage. Editors may reassign, independently review, or decline content when a conflict cannot be managed appropriately.

Reader Responsibility

Our content is general information, not personalized professional advice. Readers are responsible for checking product instructions, safety warnings, measurements, compatibility, local rules, recall notices, and personal requirements before using or purchasing a product.
